Introduced 2010 the River Series Switch Reel has become my hand down top spey reel. This trend for lighter and short
spey and switch style rods have gained in popularity ,and rightly so the system is very versatile powerful and fits many swinging applications. The idea of Scandi
and Skagit style shooting heads make the modern spey fisherman almost
ready for all situations with the drop of a dime from sink heads to
floating lines in seconds. Now switching from run to run now is a breeze
utilizing single handed and spey casting as well, unlike in the past
where 14 /15 foot rod where the main tool for job now an 11 to 12 foot are the way many anglers have gravitated too.
I always try and stay up with the times, so my new 3 3/4" wide drum switch reel will fit the bill for these shorter fly rods. They are like my 4" spey reels with a Hexad drag system ,but a 4 point contact and are smooth as silk. These are now available in many different finishes and build configurations to match your specific fly fishing needs.
